Note from the Dean: June 2016

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Welcome to the newly redesigned School of Dentistry e-newsletter. With this summer edition, you will note that we are focusing on some key highlights in the school. I hope that you like our new format, and I welcome any comments you may have about how we can improve our communications.

The School of Dentistry continues to make a difference in our  community, as was recently highlighted in the spring issue of the Creighton University Magazine. We are very proud of our students and faculty who take to heart the core Ignatian values of service and the desire to do more. The school was recognized for its work with the St. Francis Mission on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota with the E. “Bud” Tarrson Dental School Student Community Leadership Award. Congratulations to Donal Scheidel, DDS, associate professor and director of dental continuing education, all the student volunteers and our Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry for receiving the award.

An exciting time is upon us as we aspire to an even brighter future for the Creighton School of Dentistry with the planned construction of a new state-of-art dental facility. Please take a moment to watch this video, which explains the need for a new building to advance our educational programs, our service to our patients and community, and the dental profession as a whole. I welcome all conversation in regard to the University’s decision on this once-in-a-lifetime project.   Make sure to scroll through the entire edition of this e-newsletter. We have some great stories to share and information on events that you will not want to miss.

Best Regards,

Mark Latta, DMD, M.S.
Dean of the School of Dentistry
