Patricia “Patti” Cherney, RDH, BA
Adjunct Instructor, Department of Periodontics
Patti Cherney comes to the School of Dentistry from Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, Illinois, where she served for 19 years as an adjunct faculty member in the dental hygiene program. In this role, Cherney supervised, tutored, mentored and evaluated dental hygiene students in clinical and didactic settings. As such, she possesses vast experience in clinic, lab and lecture preparation and delivery. In addition, with over 40 years of experience, Patti Cherney is also a seasoned private practice clinician. She married her high school sweetheart, Mark, and together they have three children, two of whom are Creighton graduates. Her hobbies include sewing, scuba diving and visiting her granddaughter.
Yu-Ting Yeh, DDS, MSD
Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics
Yu-Ting Yeh’s first day with the School of Dentistry was Oct. 28. Dr. Yeh was born and raised in Taiwan and received his Doctor of Dental Surgery from Taipei Medical University. He recently completed his Master of Science in Dentistry in periodontics from Indiana University School of Dentistry. At Indiana University, Dr. Yeh was the recipient of the Dr. Henry M. Swenson Award, an award recognizing the best resident for clinical and didactic excellence in graduate periodontics. In his leisure time, he enjoys photography, playing tennis, mountain climbing, working out, cooking and discovering great restaurants.
Susan Bon Tiede, DDS
Susan Bon Tiede is a 1991 graduate of the School of Dentistry. Upon graduation, Dr. Tiede entered the US Navy and completed a general practice residency. After six years, she left the Navy and entered the US Public Health Service and worked for the Indian Health Service. It was during this time that she decided to specialize in pediatric dentistry. She went to the University of Nebraska Medical Center to complete her residency and returned to the Indian Health Service. In 2004, Dr. Tiede went into private practice, opening Missoula Pediatric Dentistry in Missoula, Montana. Dr. Tiede has two daughters – Sierra, a senior at Ohio State University, and Sam, a sophomore at the University of Hawaii. In her free time she loves travel, hiking and biking, and has a particular interest in overseas dental mission trips. Beginning in January, Dr. Tiede will commit to the Department of Pediatrics two half days per month during the spring semester.
Erika Schwanke Belle, DDS
Erika Schwanke Belle is a 2018 graduate of the School of Dentistry and is employed by Hoover Dental as an associate dentist. Since the beginning of the fall term, Dr. Belle has served the School of Dentistry as an instructor in the Department of Prosthodontics. In her free time, Dr. Belle enjoys working out, traveling and the outdoors.
Jill M. Day, BGS, LDA, MPH
Jill Day is a 2019 graduate of Benedictine University with a Master of Public Health degree. Since the beginning of the fall term, she has served the School of Dentistry as an instructor in the Department of Community and Preventive Dentistry. In addition to her duties at the dental school, Day is an adjunct instructor at Iowa Western Community College and serves as president of the Omaha Dental Assistants Association and secretary for the American Dental Assisting Association. She enjoys spending time with her family in Estes Park, Colorado, and is an avid golfer and gardener.
Joseph A. Barsetti, DDS
Joseph Barsetti is a 1981 graduate of the School of Dentistry. Dr. Barsetti completed his residency in pediatrics in 1983 from Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. Since 1983, Dr. Barsetti has maintained a private dental practice in Des Moines, Iowa. Dr. Barsetti has provided service to the School of Dentistry as an instructor in the Department of Pediatrics.
Jenisha M. Cooper, MS
On Sept. 16, Jenisha Cooper began with the School of Dentistry as an administrative assistant II. In her role, she supports Diagnostic Sciences and Oral Surgery. Cooper holds a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management and a Master of Science in Organizational Performance, both from Bellevue University. Prior to coming to the dental school, Cooper was employed by PromiseShip as a case coordinator. In her free time, she enjoys writing, journaling and attending her children’s sporting events.
Kimberly Simmen-Hiipakka, DDS
Assistant Professor/Group Leader, Department of Diagnostic Sciences
Kimberly Simmen-Hiipakka’s appointment with the School of Dentistry will begin Jan. 6, 2020. Dr. Simmen-Hiipakka is a 2009 graduate of the School of Dentistry and has spent the last 10 years serving in the US Air Force as an advanced clinical dentist. During her time in the Air Force, she completed an advanced education in general dentistry residency and an advanced clinical dentistry preceptorship, allowing her to become an exceptional comprehensive dentist. Additionally, she has supervised and mentored junior dentists throughout her career. When she is not practicing dentistry, Dr. Simmen-Hiipakka enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband and their three children.
Niranzena Panneer Selvam, BDS, MDS
Assistant Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences – Radiology
Niranzena Selvam will begin with the School of Dentistry Jan. 6, 2020. Dr. Selvam received her Bachelor of Dental Surgery and her Master of Dental Surgery from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai, India. Recently, she received a Certificate in Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology from the Univerisity of Florida College of Dentistry. Dr. Selvam is looking forward to using her curiosity and passion for learning to inspire her students. In her free time, she enjoys traveling with her family and painting.
